Could You Be A Professional Blogger?

November 8th, 2008

Recently, I pointed out that blogging can be an excellent way for people to start earning with AdSense. It takes no effort at all to get a blog up and running on Blogger and you pretty much start with one ad well blended at the top of the page.

But there’s a difference between starting with AdSense and making a good income from it, and that’s really the goal, right? I’m sure that most bloggers who put ads on their sites would really like to see their entries making so much money that they can kick the day job and make their living as a professional blogger. They’d be getting paid to talk about their favorite topics, and what could be better than that?

There are some people online who do exactly that. But you’ve got to do a lot more than put one ad at the top of your Blogger site — however well-blended it might be — to become a professional blogger.

First, most professional bloggers run more than one blog. They often run several. They also talk about a lot more than their families and their points of view. They give valuable information that people can use in their own lives or their businesses, and best of all, they become the center of a community in which other people swap tips and ideas. So if they’re travel agents, they can write blogs that reveal how to find bargains. If they’re accountants, they can warn about hidden tax liabilities.

That’s valuable content aimed at a market that wants it.

And then there are the ads.

You could tell readers how to choose next week’s winning lottery numbers but if you don’t have ad units in the best places on the page and showing the sorts of ads your users will want to click, you won’t get a penny from the winnings. You’ll have to know how to make sure AdSense is serving the ads you want to receive. You’ll have to know how to make those ads stand out while still blending in. And you’ll have to know how to follow your stats so that you can leap on a drop in earnings as soon as it happens.

It’s a combination of creating valuable content, smart AdSense strategy and a good knowledge of Internet marketing too. Just get that — and it’s really not too hard — and you can be a professional blogger too.

Optimize Your Website For AdSense Income

November 7th, 2008

Google AdSense is a fantastic way to monetize your website. There is no point having a website if it is earning no money when you can easily ad some AdSense ads to it and earn a good income.

Some webmasters find it hard to earn a reasonable amount of money using AdSense while others are earning a remarkable income just using AdSense alone.

The reason why some webmasters do better than others in the amount of income that they earn is the way in which they set up their website, the way they place their ads and the way they optimize their site for search engines.

To reach the highest potential of income with AdSense it is important to spend the time in setting up your website correctly and not just rushing a site and placing any AdSense ads anywhere.

It is amazing how much difference it can make to your income by tweaking your ads and your website.

The type of AdSense ad that you use can make a huge difference to the clicks you will receive. The Large Rectangle for example tends to receive much more clicks than other size ads. Your main goal is to have as many clicks as you possibly can, so it is best to use the ads that tend to perform better such as the Large Rectangle or the Medium Rectangle.

Where you place your ads can also make a big difference. Not everyone stays on a website long enough to scroll down the page, so it is vital to have ads above the fold (where they show on the page before scrolling down).

Near the link bar on the left of the page is a place where most people look and is therefore also a god place to put a block of ads.

The types of colors you use for your ads will also make a big difference to your number of clicks. It helps to have the background color of your ad the same color as the background of your site.

By setting the border color to the same as the background color will make the border disappear, making your ads look less like ads and encourage more clicks.

By having the color of the ad titles the same color as the headings on your website will also blend your ads into your webpage and make them look less like ads.

It is quite important to use of relevant keywords throughout the content of your website. If you optimize your site well with god quality keywords you will be favoured by the search engines and gain a good page ranking. The higher your page ranking the more visitors you will receive to your website.

You need to drive traffic to your website to receive enough clicks on your ads to earn a good income. Without traffic you will not get any clicks. Do some research and explore the different ways to drive traffic to your site and use as many ways as you can. The more traffic you receive the more income you will make.

It is worth it in the long run to spend the time working on your website and getting it just right. If you aren’t seeing enough clicks on your AdSense ads, then tweak your site a bit more, make some changes and see if they make a difference. Find out what works best for you and your site and stick with it.

Google AdSense - How To Register For Google AdSense, Fast!

November 4th, 2008

For individuals that generate a large number of web sites, or other locations where ads can be placed, Google Adsense is an ideal way to make money. In order to take advantage of this opportunity, you will have to sign up for an Adsense account. It is important to realize that even if you already have a Gmail account, or some other service hosted by Google, you will still need to sign up separately for Adsense.

Once you have located the Adsense registration page, you will need to provide some basic information. Among other things, you will need to provide a physical address. Even if you use a post office box for mailing, Google will not deliver payment to that address. If you feel uncomfortable about disclosing your physical address online, the best thing to do is not sign up for Google Adsense. You may also want to let Google know you do not like their policies on this issue.

After you have completed the registration process, you will need to register each page on your site so that advertisements can be placed on your page. Although the process is not complicated, you will need the assistance of the Adsense tutorials the first few times that you set a page up for Adsense. You will also need to insert a snippet of code on your webpage, so that Google can place the ads where you want them to be seen. Typically, the small amount of time that you spend on this process is worth the financial rewards you will achieve as the site becomes more popular.

Investment Techniques For Creating Passive Income

Fancy Owning a Magazine?

November 3rd, 2008

One of the strategies for making lots of money with AdSense is so obvious that it rarely gets mentioned: build lots of Web pages.

That’s pretty obvious, right? The more Web pages you have, the more opportunity you’ll have to show ads — and the more clicks you’ll get.

And yet a lot of AdSense sites on the Web are fairly small, just a few pages with ads on each.

If you’ve created a site to sell a product or discuss a topic that you find interesting, that’s understandable. Your site’s the thing and the ads are just a way to help pay for it. But for those sorts of sites, a magazine could be an excellent solution.

So, for example, if you had a website about mortgages to promote your lending business, you might only need half a dozen pages to describe each of your services. But you could also add a magazine that was filled with articles about interest rates or how to choose the right type of mortgage or buying a home or whatever you wanted. You could write those articles yourself, hire writers to do it for you or invite Realtors or other people in related businesses to submit pieces and receive some free publicity in return.

You’d benefit by offering your users more content. And of course, you’d make money by having more places to put your ads.

One option that might have made it easier for people to create their own magazines is the iJoomla Magazine component. If you used Joomla (the old Mambo program) to build your website, then you might be familiar with it already.

I have to admit, I haven’t used it. But I have heard that since it came out a couple of months ago, it’s been flying off the shelves. It’s supposed to make creating the layout for a magazine an absolute breeze. All you have to do then is slip in the content. If you can lay your hands on enough of that, you should have a bumper site ready to roll in minutes. It sounds like it could be a good solution for people with small sites who want more pages to place their ads on.

But like I said, I haven’t tried it so if any of you have, let’s hear the results!

AdSense API - Expand Your Earning Opportunities

November 3rd, 2008

What is AdSense API?

I won’t discuss about what is API, or the technicality of the issue as it is completely different domain. From layman’s perspective, AdSense API is an excellent tool that lets your site users maintain their AdSense accounts from within your site and place Ads on their generated content. The generated revenue is shared between both the user and the site owner. It increases the popularity as well as the profit of your site as users get the opportunity to use your site’s platform for earning money. So it’s a win-win situation for both.

How it works?

You as a site owner use this API (Application Programming Interface) functions to create and mange AdSense accounts directly from within your web pages. The API is available for many languages like Java, .NET, Perl, PHP, Python and XML. The API supports account creation, Ads customization, report generation and of course integrating host (Site Owner) AdSense account with client’s (Site User) AdSense account on a sharing basis. The site owner decides the percentage of revenue sharing. While API allows you to keep from 0 - 75% of the generated revenue, an ideal sharing ratio is 30-70% or 40-60% percent. To attract large number of users some sites offer 100% revenue for users. A classic example of such case is HubPages which offer 100% revenue to its site users. Apart from generating revenue from Ads it also gives you referral bonuses when your site users reach certain revenue thresholds. If you keep the sharing percentage of your site users at the minimum then your referral bonuses are going to affect significantly as they depend on users revenue thresholds.

How to get started?

Google has introduced new condition for using this API as of September 2007. Now sites having at least 100,000 page views per day are only eligible to apply for usage of AdSense API. This step is a bit disappointing for sites having relatively low traffic, as they need it more to expand their business. If you meet the above criteria you can apply for AdSense API integration in your site. If you already have an AdSense account things get speedy and your account setup is less time consuming. If you do not have, then you can apply for it straight away along with your API application.

Conclusion

Today a large number of popular as well as new sites are taking advantage of AdSense API to inflate their site revenue and are giving their users a chance to earn some bucks while having fun on their site. If you are a proud owner of a site generating decent amount of user-generated content on regular basis with enough traffic that meets the prerequisites of application, then go ahead and see your AdSense earnings increasing exponentially.

Should Government Websites Be Allowed to Post Google Ads to Offset Deficient Budgets?

November 3rd, 2008

Vincent Cerf, the head evangelist at Google, was asked a very interesting question recently while he gave an excellent speech at a seminar for eGovernment initiatives. He was asked if he thought that there was a way for Google to have special “Google AdSense” for government websites. He smiled one of his famous smiles and said indicated he liked the question very much.

Well, as a taxpayer so do I, because if the eGovernment initiatives can be partly funded by advertising then we have fewer taxes and will get more robust eGovernment websites. This could be a significant win/win situation for everyone. The light bulb went off and so, I decided to put this on the agenda at the Online Think Tank to discuss. We determined that indeed it would make sense to do this and that certain types of business or non-profits would not jeopardize or put a government agency in a bad light.

For instance; a group of advertisers might include Graffiti Control Companies, American Cancer Society, Emergency Flood Remediation Services, Leak Detector Businesses, Construction Inspection Companies, the local Cable Company, Water Companies, Taxi Cab Companies, Local Kids Sports Groups, etc. This could easily be done and this would not be a conflict of interest and it would appear with a small disclaimer, and those click-ads would pay for the website. It makes sense.

We know there are reasons not to have advertising on government buildings, vehicles or websites. But there are also good reasons for it. For instance; advertising on school buses might be distracting and cause an accident, so it might not be a good idea. But certain types of advertising on a dog catcher truck, garbage truck, code-enforcement vehicle might be tolerated and it could lower costs for us taxpayer’s. I think that if we consider this properly, we might create a win/win situation for all.
